The Little Mermaid Game
Year: 1989
Ages: 4+
Players: 2-4 (For the purpose of this review, there were 2 players)
Set Up Time: 3 minutes
Playing Time: Took us 9 minutes.
Object: Be the first to change Ariel from a mermaid into a human.
Review:
+ There are different sets of rules based on how many people are playing the game.
- You only get to play as fish, not your favorite characters.
- Easy to play but easier to win. Anyone can land on the Ariel spot 5 times but the winner is the only person to land on Ariel for the 6th time which changes her from a mermaid to a human.
- 3D board. As I've stated before, there are good and bad things about board games with 3D pieces. Visually, they look cool and if all pieces are in good playing order than you will have no problems. However if the game has been played many times with it already being 26 years old, some pieces may not work or stand up at all. If the background that contains the movement slots for Ariel gets damaged or missing, this game would be useless.
Overall:
I always appreciate when games have different sets of rules for two player games compared to three or four player games because sometimes it's hard to find people willing to play. Although the 3D board features all the characters from the movie you are unable to use them as playing pawns which means you have to settle for being a random fish. This game is easy to play and the easiest game to win by only having to land on Ariel the 6th time but the 3D board (assuming it's in working condition) is a great feature that brings it something extra.
