Obsessions/Depressions: October Edition

OBSESSIONS:

TV Show: Homeland: Season 4: Episode 9- "There's Something Else Going On"
I'm just catching up on Season 4 of Homeland, which was just released on DVD a few weeks ago, and this episode was breathtaking. I don't want to give away what happens for those of you who haven't got here yet but I found myself legitimately scared (and without even knowing it I was half hiding under my blanket). If you've yet to watch season four, you are missing out on one of the best episodes of Homeland yet.

Event: Entertainment Expos
I attended the Edmonton Entertainment & Comic Expo last weekend which marks my 8th convention in 4 years. Even from a young age I was always a celebrity fanatic and used to fantasize about what it would be like meeting people from the screen. Entertainment Expos make it so I can finally meet those people and this go-round I met Cary Elwes (Princess Bride), Natalia Tena (Game of Thrones & Harry Potter), Will Friedle (Boy Meets World), Amber Benson (Buffy the Vampire Slayer) and Sean Gunn (Gilmore Girls). It's totally worth getting up early, dealing with crowds and standing in line for hours to be able to have a conversation with people you've always admired. Natalia Tena is one of the most personable celebrities I have ever met and she took the time with each and every fan to introduce herself, ask about them and share stories. I also loved meeting my first cast member from Gilmore Girls, Sean Gunn, who told us just how much he loves going around to conventions and meeting the show's fan (who he said makes up about 75% of the people stopping by his table). And I can't forget about Will Friedle who was super nice and turned out to be our best photo op of the convention. Stay tuned to my Thursday #TBT Autograph posts which will feature autographs from all the above!
I just want to thank EVERYONE who came all the way to Edmonton and made my fangirl dreams come true as well as the Edmonton Expo for once again putting on a spectacular convention.

Music: Kacey Musgraves- "Pageant Material" CD
Kacey Musgraves really outdid herself on her second studio album which features 14 new songs all co-written by Kacey herself. I'm in love with the laid back country sound and the fantastic lyrics. Check out the full CD review here.

Game: Super Mario Maker
Nintendo was on the ball with their new Mario game, Super Mario Maker. Not only can you create your own levels and upload them to for the world to play, but you have the ability to play an infinite amount of Mario levels with a ton of unlockable Nintendo characters. This game not only taps into your gaming skills but your creativity in producing custom made levels.

Depressions:

Slang: "Bitch"
Back about 10 years ago when you heard someone say the word "Bitch" in a sentence on TV, you knew they meant business because at the time it was edgy and still a swear word. Nowadays even the regular TV networks have no problem constantly tossing around the word like last nights salad. Using "bitch" has become so mainstream that it no longer makes the impact that it used to and has very redundant.

Event: Emmy Awards
I'm baffled yet again at why Tatiana Maslany didn't win an Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series. Unlike all the other nominated actresses in this category, Tatiana doesn't just play one character well she plays the main FIVE characters in addition to other smaller characters. She's perfected her craft because it's very easy to distinguish which character is which just by the mannerisms and characteristics that she gives each clone. What's even more impressive is when she's playing a clone who's trying to impersonate ANOTHER clone which she can pull of flawlessly EVERY time. I really think it's #EmmyForMaslany time. And if you disagree, then you've probably never seen Orphan Black.
