Halloween Edition: Mystery Of The 13th Guest (1942) Movie Review

Mystery of the 13th Guest (1942) Movie Review

A young woman named Marie (Helen Parrish) returns to her grandfathers house to read his will 13 years after his passing. As more of the family starts to turn up for the will reading, they one by one end up dead and placed in the same seat that they sat the night that the grandfather announced his wishes regarding his will.

The best part about this movie is the characters. They are all very smart and have a sarcastic witty humor about them. The banter that goes back and forth between the family is funny and sound like dialogue that would be said at my house. The Lt. Burke and his sidekick remind me of Andy & Barney from The Andy Griffith Show based on their personalities. Lt. Burke wants to find the killer and solve the crimes and tells the sidekick what to do. Half the time the sidekick but fails to do whats asked or he misunderstands what is asked and tries to figure it out.

With a run time of 61 minutes, this updated version of the 1932 film "The Thirteenth Guest", is a fun who-done-it style mystery that I would recommend everybody watch.

So who was the 13th guest? You will just have to give it a watch and find out!

Grade: B
