Halloween Edition: The Slumber Party Massacre (1982) Movie Review

The Slumber Party Massacre (1982) Movie Review

High school student Trish (Michelle Michaels) decides to throw a slumber party while her parents are away unknowing that there is a murderer stalking and killing off the girls one by one.

There are a couple things that make this movie different from other teen slasher movies that are out there. First of all, there is no background on the killer. He just appears and seems to be after all these girls randomly. The only words he says are "pretty", "I love you" and "You know you want it". Most of the time the first few minutes of the movie are dedicated to back story but not here. The other difference is that most movies start out with cheap scares and work their way into the movie before any death scenes occur. However, this movie makes you think it's going in for a cheap scare right at the beginning but instead it's an actual death, followed by several scares.

Of course there some things never change with these movies. The killer was shot, stabbed, slashed in the stomach and had his hand chopped off but was still able to get up and keep fighting these girls. Please.

This movie also made me wonder if I am the only person on the planet that would have no idea what to do with a fuse box if it went out? Every time this happens in these movies, the kids or teenagers always seem to know where the box is located and what to do. Is this a skill I missed out on?

All in all this movie delivers just what you would expect. Nothing new but enough hack and slash to keep you entertained for 77 minutes.

Grade: B-
