1st Annual TV Awards: Part 3

Best Actress- Dramady

Nominees:

- Emmy Rossum (Fiona Gallagher, Shameless)

This season of Shameless we saw Fiona marry someone she barely knew and try to keep her family on the right track. Fiona is an emotional character who always walks the line between doing what she wants and doing what she has to do. 

- Kristen Bell (Jeannie Van Der Hooven, House Of Lies)

We saw a different side of Kristen's character Jeannie this season which showed that maybe her pregnancy will soften her tough exterior, all while still able to be assertive and stand up for herself when need be. Jeannie's such a strong female character in a very male dominated series.

- Lena Dunham (Hannah Horvath, Girls)

Hannah was torn apart in this season of Girls when she discovers that Adam is moving on with another girl. Lena takes her character Hannah on an emotional roller coaster that shows her that what she thought she wanted out of life (to be a writer) isn't actually what she wants.

Winner: Emmy Rossum (Fiona Gallagher, Shameless)

We saw Fiona struggle in so many different ways this season. She struggled with her decision to get married on a whim to someone she barely knew. She struggled with her brother Ian's erratic behaviour and helped convince him to check into a hospital for help. She struggled with helping her younger brother Carl after he committed a crime and was sentences to a juvenile detention facility. She struggled with her ability to let go of an ex that she thought she had put in the past. In the end, Emmy is the best choice they could have picked to play such a functionally-disturbed character. She brings such a natural beauty and inner strength to this character that is rarely captured on TV these days. 

Best Actor- Dramady

Nominees:

- Adam Driver (Adam Sackler, Girls)

Adam tried to move on from Hannah on this season of Girls. We saw Adam explore who his character is through the ups and downs of a new relationship and the inner turmoil that it brings.

- Cameron Monaghan (Ian Gallagher, Shameless)

Cameron really took his acting to a new level in this season of Shameless by playing recently diagnosed bi-polar Ian who not only stole a baby but was forced to check himself into a mental hospital. 

- Don Chedle (Marty Kaan, House Of Lies)

We see plenty of prison flashbacks this season furthering the truth that Marty just doesn't have a soft side. Don's character Marty is cold-hearted and doesn't care who he steps on yet spends his time wondering where is son is starting to get those traits from.

- Steve Zissis (Alex Pappas, Togetherness)

We see Steve's character Alex evolve so much during the first season when he learns what it's like to have someone root for him and teach him to believe in himself. 

- William H. Macy (Frank Gallagher, Shameless)

I don't think there is anyone better out there to properly portray the drunk and sorry excuse for a father quite the way William H. Macy does. Sometimes you root for him, sometimes you root against him but either way you find yourself always emotionally invested.

Winner: Cameron Monaghan (Ian Gallager, Shameless)

This was quite the season for Ian who was officially diagnosed with the same bi-polar disease that his mother has. The character of Ian came across so affected by this disease that it was heartbreaking to watch him struggle with the bi-polar urges and side affects from the recommended medicine.
