Game Time! Spider Wars Game Review

Spider Wars

Year: 1988

Ages: 7+

Players: 2 players

Set Up Time: 2 Minutes

Playing Time: Took us 5 minutes

Object: Eliminate all the opponents spiders or put a spider leg in their nest.

Review:
+ I appreciate that they tried to do something different by making it a 3D stand up "spider web" instead of a plain old board game.

- It's very hard to get all the spiders legs to fit inside the provided pegs to move around the web.

- By having the basis of the game be around spiders their target demographic would most likely be boys. The fact that you are playing with "spiders" would probably deter most girls from wanting to play this game. As a kid, this is a game I would have passed on just on the basis that it's spiders you're playing with. Ick.

Overall:

Being in my mid-twenties and playing this game for the first time, it left a lot to be desired. I enjoyed the fact that they thought out of the box and made it a 3D "web" instead of a regular board but the fact that the spiders are hard to move around the "web" and that the pawns are spiders in the first place, really loses it's appeal with me. Having to think about moves before you make them and be aware not only of where your pawns are but also where your opponents pawns are just makes it a vertical game of checkers. But with spiders. Double ick.
