Game Time! 24: DVD Board Game Review

24: DVD Board Game

Year: 2006

Ages: 12+

Players: 2-4 (For the purpose of this review, there were 3 players)

Set Up Time: 1 minute

Playing Time: Took us 44 minutes.

Object: Playing as CTU agents trying to collect clues and prevent terrorist attacks.

Review:
+ The clock counts down at random times just like it would on the TV show.

- There is no instructions on how to play with both the DVD and the board. It tells you on the screen to move your pawn to the corresponding place on the board but that's impossible because NOTHING is listed on the board. Where the hell is the hospital? or airport? No one knows because the board is just a bunch of circles with multi-colored lines (see picture 3).

- We weren't sure how to play this game since there was no decent instructions so we just started by looking at locations. Each of us went to a different location (a total of 8 times) and after hearing "This lead has got us nowhere" finally we found a lead sending us to a location we've already been.
- In every location that you get sent to, there is a game you have to play. The problem with the games is that again there are no instructions and half the time you don't know what to do. Even when you do know what to do (like go through 3 rooms full of lasers without hitting any) it becomes practically impossible because to go through the lasers (see picture 4) you have to hit the up button once on the DVD remote. And if you are not exactly accurate, you will get the ACCESS DENIED screen (see picture 5)and the play will continue. We spent almost thirty minutes trying to get through this room of lasers. We finally did, but I have no idea how.

Overall:
We conned a third person into playing this game with us but it didn't matter. We didn't need three people to play this piece of crap. With one expert video gamer (Kyle) and I'd like to say a slightly above average video gamer (myself) we couldn't make heads or tails out of this game. We couldn't figure out the games we needed to play, we couldn't figure out where to find the leads, we couldn't figure out how to correspond the DVD screen with the board itself. It was a nightmare that lasted 44 minutes and needless to say, we lost. You know, this board game should really be called Mission Impossible because that's exactly what it is.
Impossible.
