My Thoughts on Netflix's Possible Full House Revival
I screamed like an excited little girl when reading the possibility about Netflix bringing back Full House for a 13 episode series called "Fuller House". Then as I thought more and more about it, I was left questioning just HOW I wanted the comeback to happen.
There are many many shows/movies that I watched growing up that I would love to see reunions or even remakes of these day. Nothing compares to that feeling of nostalgia I get when the Full House theme song comes on or how crazy excited I was back in 2013 when Jesse and the Rippers appeared and performed a song on the Late Night Show with Jimmy Fallon. In a world where nothing ever stays the same, it's nice to get those childhood feelings back again and see the characters you grew up with, continue to grow up with you.
It's been rumored that the series will mainly be focused around Candace Cameron Bure's character (D.J. Tanner) and Andrea Barber's character (Kimmy Gibbler), which I am totally okay with. What I'm not totally okay with though is that fact that it's mentioned that Bob Saget, Dave Coulier and John Stamos will be in a few episodes through guest appearances. This show was based around these three men carrying for the Tanner girls and it just wouldn't be the same without seeing them in all the episodes. Trust me, I get it. Kids grow up, move on and start lives without their parents, but to only have the men come back in guest spots would be doing a disservice to the series.
I would really hope that ALL the main characters would be ready and willing to come back for this series because it would't be the same without them. However, if any aren't willing to come back, I strongly discourage against re-casting. Though I highly doubt they would dare recast any of the main family members (for fear of crazy fan backlash!), say if Jesse & Rebecca's twins Nicky & Alex didn't want to be involved with the show, than just let the audience know what's happened with their characters and move on. DON'T recast.
Another thing that worries me is that fact that the TV era isn't the same as it was back in the day and because of that a lot of the humor has changed. I would hope that with only a 13 episode order, they would cater to the older generation who grew up with Full House in the first place by keeping the same 90s style family sitcom humor and adding nostalgia tidbits. My main problem with changing the humor to fit a new generation of TV viewers is that they aren't going to hook a new generation in with only a 13 episode order. I grew up watching Boy Meets World and was super excited when Girl Meets World started only to find that yes, the older characters are the same, but the humor had changed dramatically to the point where I couldn't even enjoy watching the series.
So in the end, YES, I would LOVE to see a Full House revival on the conditions that the humor remains unchanged (so they can focus on catering to the original fans), that they bring back as many characters as possible (Nicky, Alex, Steve and maybe even Teddy or Gia) and if someone doesn't want to come back, write them a story line explaining what happened to their characters, but DON'T recast.
In this hectic and busy world I thought to myself, what could I use more of in my life? I know. Predictability. A Milkman. A Paperboy. and Full House back on TV!
