Game Time! The Simpsons Mystery Of Life Game Review

The Simpsons Mystery Of Life

Year: 1990

Ages: 10+

Players: 2-4

Set Up Time: 1 minute

Playing Time: Took us 34 minutes.

Object:The first player to get every item on his agenda card checked off and get back home or ignore the agenda items and collect 12 donuts.

Review:
+ You can play as your favorite Simpson character
+ There are several agenda cards per Simpson character so you can play as the same person multiple times and have different items you need to check off.
+ There are two ways that you can play the game. You can either try and get every item on your agenda checked off (for example, Lisa would have a music lesson or Bart would get his skateboard from the playground) or you could ignore the agenda and just go around the board earning money and collecting 12 donuts.

- Some of the challenges on the cards are for a younger male audience. I was not very good at arm wrestling, I forfeited my point on the burping challenge and we had no way of telling who could make the scariest face.
- You need to know some knowledge of the Simpsons. I've seen several episodes over the years and I thought I would be okay at the trivia but I wasn't. I missed out on every question. If you have enough knowledge to be able to answer "What present did Homer give Marge for her birthday?" than you will be fine. If not, take heed and try and avoid the trivia questions.
- The game requires you to roll two dice. The problem is that rolling two dice can almost always take you 1/4 way around the board. I had to go around the board several times just because I needed to land on two spots but I always got a high number on the dice and I just kept missing them.

Overall:
After playing many board games this one was very refreshing because in some ways it seemed older. There was a lot for each player to get done to win the game and having different agenda cards and game goals, you could play multiple times and the game would still have it's new factor. It also took us a grown up amount time to play the game (34 minutes). Despite having no (good) trivia knowledge and some of the challenges being silly, it was no mystery to me why this game has quickly become one of my favorites.
