1st Annual TV Awards: Part 1
Best Actress- Drama
Nominees:
- Eva Green (Vanessa Ives, Penny Dreadful)
There have been so many versions demonic possession throughout the decades but Eva Green really shows off her acting skills by playing this sometimes terrifying possessed character.
- Katheryn Winnick (Lagertha, Vikings)
Always willing to lend a helping hand, Lagertha leaves her country behind to help Ragnar and his crew try to overtake Paris, showing she's clearly the strongest female character in the series. Plus Katheryn uses her real life black belt to help with her action and fighting scenes.
- Maggie Smith (Violet Crawley, Downton Abbey)
Maggie brings Violet to life with her excellent comedic timing and her witty sarcastic remarks. Never one to be left out of the conversation, Maggie's character always stands out in the crowd.
- Rose McIver (Liv Moore, iZombie)
This newcomer not only makes modern day zombies believable but stylish. Rose is such a good actress that while she's playing her character Liv she also has to play other characters within her character (a downside of eating brains is getting parts of their personalities).
- Taraji P. Henson (Cookie Lyon, Empire)
Being a loved to be hated character isn't always easy, but Taraji manages to pull off both sides of her characters personalities.
Winner: Taraji P. Hensen (Cookie Lyon, Empire)
Taraji brings a strong sense of female empowerment to the character of Cookie. She's always so sure of herself and isn't afraid to speak her mind. There are two sides of her personality that make her both likable and unlikable at the same time, which isn't always the easiest character to portray.
Best Actor- Drama
Nominees:
- Andrew Lincoln (Rick Grimes, The Walking Dead)
It was very nice to see Rick get his groove back this season by agreeing to live at the compound all the while keeping his eyes and ears open for potential danger. Andrew's really bringing back the assertiveness into Rick, which we haven't seen since his wife (Lori) died.
- Kyle Chandler (John Rayburn, Bloodline)
Kyle is able to bring different sides to John that come out when needed. You can see his loving side when he's surrounded by family and friends but also his fighting side when he's at work or dealing with untrustworthy people.
- Michael Sheen (Dr. William Masters, Masters of Sex)
Michael Sheen does such a good job of playing a character who battles so many inner personal demons. As we see this season not only is his job affected by it, but also his home life.
- Sean Bean (Martin Odum, Legends)
Loved seeing Sean Bean play a character that made me forget all about Ned Stark. In fact, not only does he play one character well, he plays all his Legend characters with just as much believability and distinction between them.
- Terrence Howard (Lucious Lyon, Empire)
Terrence Howard really shows off his acting chops here by playing Lucious Lyon, the head of a record empire, who is loved by few and hated by very very many.
Winner: Terrence Howard (Lucious Lyon, Empire)
The fact that I choose a character that I rather hate to win this category means that he's clearly the best. I usually find myself rooting for the good guys to win but Lucious just has that selfishness quality about him and persistence that I just love to hate. I honestly couldn't imagine anybody but Terrence playing this role.
