1st Annual TV Awards: Part 4
Best Actress- Sci-Fi/Fantasy
Nominees:
- Lena Headey (Cersei Lannister, Game of Thrones)
Lena had to play an emotional version of her character that nobody's seen before when Cersei loses her power and gets thrown in jail to atone for her crimes. She gets her head shaved, drinks water off of the floor in the prison and has to do an emotional walk of shame in front of the whole city, naked.
- Gwendoline Christie (Brienne of Tarth, Game of Thrones)
Gwendoline really got the chance for her character Brienne to shine this season with her story line focusing on her promise to Lady Stark to protect Sansa. We saw both the kind-hearted side of her character as well as her fighting side that will cut your head off if you stand in her way.
- Tatiana Maslany (Helena/Cosima/Sarah/Alison/Rachel, Orphan Black)
Not only does Tatiana play one character in this series, she plays five already established characters and one new one, each with a completely different look and personality.Winner: Tatiana Maslany (Helena/Cosima/Sarah/Alison/Rachel, Orphan Black)
I think Tatiana makes it impossible for anybody else to possibly win in this category because without her there would be no Orphan Black. Every character she portrays is different and they all stand out from each other. Not once have I ever seen a clone and had to wonder which one it was. Tatiana is clearly the heart and soul of Orphan Black and one of the most talented and underrated actresses of this generation.
Best Actor- Sci-Fi/Fantasy
Nominees:
- Dylan Bruce (Paul Dierden, Orphan Black)
Always a good guy (though sometimes we were left to wonder), Dylan always plays his character Paul with an unreadable poker face. The audience was left never knowing just what Paul was thinking or who he was aligned with until his untimely (but selfless) demise.
- Iain Glen (Jorah Mormont, Game of Thrones)
Iain does such a fantastic job playing Jorah, who was banished from the city for lying to Dani. Here we see him still fighting to be back in her good graces physically, mentally and strategically.
- Peter Dinklage (Tyrion Lannister, Game of Thrones)
After starting off this season in a box, Peter really shows a different side of his character Tyrion, who realizes what a horrible thing he did back home and knows that he's hit rock bottom and has nothing left to lose.
Winner: Iain Glen (Jorah Mormont, Game of Thrones)
Jorah is never willing to let the queen down and even when she banishes him from the city, he's still looking out for her best interest. Iain's character Jorah shows his loyalty strategically by kidnapping and bringing her back Tyrion, physically by fighting in the fighting pits for her honor and mentally when his sharp eye saves her butt (yet again) from an unseen assassin.
