Game Time! Home Alone 2: Lost In New York Game Review

Home Alone 2: Lost In New York

Year: 1992

Players: 3-6 (For the purpose of this review, we had 3 players)

Set Up Time: 1 minute

Playing Time: Took us 24 minutes

Object: Be the first player with the most chips after 10 rounds.

Review:
+ The character cards are nice and big.

- What does this game have to do with the movie? Like at all? This is a card game with chips and involves one person dealing out the cards and picking up a new one every turn. They pass on the one they don't need until one of the players has three of the same characters cards and a Kevin and they yell "YES" and grab a pawn from the middle of the game board. The other players then proceed to grab the other pawn and the one who is without a pawn is the loser of the round and pays chips out to the characters and the winner player (if they have a Kevin card). It would have been so much better to have a board game based on the places in New York City that he traveled to and have players go around the board setting up traps for the villains. Maybe even have the option that one of the players could be the villain character(s). But I guess that would have just made too much sense.
- There are quite a few rules and the rules change when the game is down to having three characters left, and then change again with two left and then change again for the final round meaning you only need the one remaining character card. I think they should have left the rules the same for the last two rounds meaning you need one character card AND a Kevin card.

- There is no rule that you have to switch the dealer but if you think about it, the dealer almost always has the advantage because they get the first choice of the cards and can hold on an extra Kevin card just so someone else can't play it. Plus in the last round where you only need the one remaining character card, it's almost guaranteed the dealer will win because they see all the cards first, unless one person random gets it when dealing each player a card at the beginning.
- I'm so accustomed to waiting my turn when playing games that it was very hard to follow their "the more faster you play, the more exciting it is" suggestion because the dealer is just constantly picking up cards and passing them on which means every player is constantly passing on cards, so there is no waiting for your turn.
- Instead of having all the player gets 15 chips each, they should just all be equally divided per amount of players. When a player is out of chips they then have to borrow from the bank which they have to pay the back. The problem with this is that if one player is constantly loosing, they will end up owing so many chips to the bank that the odds of them winning the game is extremely unlikely.

Overall:
Aside from having nice character cards this card game really doesn't have anything to do with the movie at all. Having quite a few rules that change several times towards the end of the game and not making it a rule for the dealer to have to change up makes this game kind of annoying (and easier to win if you are the dealer). The "fast pace" of this game was a strange concept for me and play would have been fairer if all the chips had been divided equally among the players rather than borrowing and paying back the bank.
