In Honor Of Teddy Bear Day


In Honor Of Teddy Bear Day (Sept 9) here's a list of teddy bears that derived from Pop Culture in order of youngest to oldest.





Ted
Age: 3
From: Ted is a large teddy bear featured in the movie Ted where he comes to life and befriends a lonely child. 27 years later and they are still living together as Ted remains his beer drinking, foul mouthed best friend.


Charmin Bear
Age: 15
From: The Charmin Bear was created and introduced in 2000 and by 2004 the packaging had been replaced to feature the Charmin Bears on all Charmin products.
Baby Bear
Age: 24
From: Out of all the Bear Family characters on Sesame Street, Baby Bear makes the most frequent appearances because he portrays the same age group (3-5) as many views of the show.


Teddy Ruxpin
Age: 30
From: Teddy Ruxpin was first produced as an animatronics children's teddy bear who moved his eyes and mouth while a tape cassette played a story. It was later followed by an animated television series The Adventures of Teddy Ruxpin in 1987.
Snuggle Bear
Age: 32
From: Snuggle bear has been the mascot for the Snuggle line of fabric softener since 1983. 
Pookie
Age: 37
From: Garfield has always been such a picky cat when it comes to showing affection, until he found Pookie stuffed in a drawer. Garfield's slightly over protective when it comes to his best friend Pookie who can often be found napping with Garfield.


Fozzie Bear
Age: 39
From: Fozzie Bear was one of the most popular Muppets who went on to even have his own OPI bronze nail polish in the 2011 Muppet Holiday Collection.


Rooty (A & W Root Beer Bear)
Age: 41 
From: The A & W Restaurant mascot bear Rooty originated in Canada in 1974 and first appeared in the US in 1976.
Corduroy Bear
Age: 47
From: This 1968 children's book about a bear who embarks on a trip around a department store after closing trying to find his lost button was written and illustrated by Don Freeman.

Berenstain Bears
Age: 53
From: The first official book was titled The Big Honey Hunt by Stanley and Janice Berenstain with no plans to create a sequel until the first book hit the big time. 
Paddington Bear
Age: 57
From: Paddington first appeared in a book called A Bear Calling Paddington in 1958 which was inspired by the author (Michael Bond) noticing a lonely teddy bear on a store shelf.
Yogi Bear & Boo Boo

Age: 57
From: Yogi Bear and Boo Boo both originated as characters in segments of The Huckleberry Hound Show but found their own fame proving to be more popular than Huckleberry Hound and earning their own show, The Yogi Bear Show, in 1961.


Little Bear
Age: 58
From: Little Bear first appeared in a childrens book series based on the interactions between a bear cub and his mother. Little Bear later went on to star in his self titled animated television show, Little Bear.



Disney's Br'er Bear

Age: 69
From: Br'er Bear was the so-called henchman to Br'er Fox who went from appearing in Disney's Song Of The South to being featured at the Splash Mountain rides the Disney Parks. 


Smokey Bear
Age: 71
From: Also known as Smokey the Bear, he was created as an advertising campaign to teach the dangers of forest fires and used all the way up until 2011 in new CGI commercials.
Sugar Bear
Age: 70ish
From: Sugar Bear first appeared in the 1940s as the mascot for Sugar Crisp cereal.
Winnie The Pooh
Age: 91
From: Winnie the Pooh made his character debut in A.A. Milne's poem Teddy Bear in 1924 in Punch Magazine. He became licensed to the Walt Disney Productions later in 1961.

Coca Cola Bear
Age: 93
From: The Coca Cola Bear made his first print advertisement appearance in France back in 1922.
