1st Annual TV Awards: Part 8

1st Annual TV Awards: Part 8

Favorite TV Couple

Nominees:

- Hannah & Caleb (Pretty Little Liars)
After rekindling their romance, Hannah and Caleb proved nothing, not even being arrested and kidnapped could keep them apart.

- Glen & Maggie (The Walking Dead)
Although this season didn't focus as much on their relationship, they are still one of the only couples left still surviving. Between Maggie's smarts and Glen's bravery this is one couple that still have a lot of fight left in them.

- Mickey & Ian (Shameless)
Mickey & Ian's relationship was taken to a whole new level this season with Ian's bi-polar issues really causing some problems. Though Mickey was plagued by his feelings about hearing Ian's disease, he stood by him getting medicine and trying to make him feel better. And even though Ian tried to end things during the season finale, I'm hoping these two can find a way to work it out.

- Anna & Bates (Downton Abbey)
This season caused a slight role reversal for Anna & Bates when Anna was suspected of Mr. Greens mrder and sent off to prison. In typical hero fashion, Bates wrote a letter of confession (for the crime he didn't commit) to clear her name.

- Sam & Andy (Rookie Blue)
Throughout their on-again off-again relationship we finally see Andy start to accept their future together after finding out that Sam is having a child with his ex-girlfriend. She's willing to stay by his side and love his daughter as if it was her own.

Winner: Hannah & Caleb (Pretty Little Liars)

Being able to come back together even stronger than they were originally, makes them my Fave TV Couple. They stuck together through Ali's return, through Mona's apparent death, through Hanna's arrest and through her being kidnapped and held hostage. Not even when Hannah begged Caleb to run away and save himself, did he even consider leaving. Instead he worked tirelessly to try and come up with a way to rescue her. Although they may bicker and need some time to themselves, they will always find up finding their way back to each other.

Best New Character

Nominees:

- Dermot Mulroney (Sean Pierece, Shameless)
Playing a recovering addict and Fiona's boss put Sean in such a tight spot when a relationship between them started to develop.

- Erin Karpluk (Juliet, Rookie Blue)
I was happy to see fellow Canadian Erin Karpluk join this season of Rookie Blue as I loved her Being Erica. Although she might end up being an undercover baddie, Juliet is a breath of fresh air and a welcome addition to the squad.

- Justin Chatwin (Jason Kellerman, Orphan Black)
I think it's pretty funny that we just saw what may be the last of Justin Chatwin halfway through this season of Shameless and then he pops up on Orphan Black. The character of Jason brings some added tension between Alison and Donnie by trying to win Alison back. It will be interesting to see if he sticks around and how he will react to the news of Alison being a clone.

- Mary McCormack (Denna Altshuler, House of Lies)
It was great to see Mary McCormack again as I'm a big fan of her previous series In Plain Sight. Mary plays Denna who becomes more than just one of Marty's lovers because she knows when to hold her cards and when to fold them. Looks like she just might out con Marty Kaan.

Winner: Mary McCormack (Denna Altshuler, House of Lies)

This series has so many strong male characters that I was really happy they brought in someone like Mary who can go toe-to-toe with Marty.

Character Most Sad To See Go

Nominees:

- Carol Ann Susi (Mrs. Wolowitz, The Big Bang Theory)
This is the saddest of all because the character only passed away because the actress really passed away in real life. I think the writters and cast sent the character away with a fantastic farewell.
- Dylan Bruce (Paul Dierden, Orphan Black)
Although I'm not completely convinced that Paul is dead considering Orphan Black rarely kills off characters. If he is gone for good than that's sad because even though he was Beth's monitor, I really believed that he loved Sarah and he was looking out for her best interests as much as he could with his job.

- Emily Kinney (Beth Greene, The Walking Dead)
I'm equal parts annoyed at this losing Beth as I am sad. Just when she was really starting to take the lead in her scenes and show that she's able to stand on her own while trying to save others, they let the character go.

- George Blagden (Athelstan, Vikings)
Floki's jealously finally got the better of him when he went and killed Athelstan for "the greater good". I don't feel like Athelstan's story was completely finished on Vikings so it's sad to see him go.

- Kevin Pollak (Alvin, Mom)
I have to admit that I really didn't see this one coming. After Christy only finding her dad halfway through last season and him really becoming involved in her life this season, I think it was a little too early to let him go. I enjoyed the character and I think he fit well into the cast.

Winner: George Blagden (Athelstan, Vikings)

After several seasons of Vikings, I was pretty devastated to see Athelstan die. I loved the bromance he had with Ragnar and his ability to believe in something so deeply that the people close to you want to believe in it to.

Most Improved Character

Nominees:

- Taryn Manning (Tiffany "Pennsatucky" Doggett, Orange Is The New Black)
It was great to FINALLY see a different side of Tiffany that wasn't in up in everyone's face about Jesus or wanting to fight the people with different beliefs. We got to see back into her past (through flashbacks) and learn about her scars which cause some of her current flaws. We really saw her open up to others and make friends with people she made fun of originally.

- Melissa McBride (Carol Peletier, The Walking Dead)
After the Sofia story line wrapped itself up in season two, Carol has pretty much just been a disposable character, waiting for her time to be eaten. This season however, they really utilized Carol by having her be the one to save the group from Terminus and then proceed to step it up when they moved into Alexandria. Even when it came to scaring a little boy in order for him to keep a secret.

- Noel Fisher (Mickey Milkovich, Shameless)
I really didn't like Mickey when this series started. He was always starting fights and causing trouble and used pretty much as a "bad seed" bully character. Throughout the series his character slowly evolves and come this season you can really see that this character does have a heart and has finally learned how to use it.

Winner: Noel Fisher (Mickey Milkovich, Shameless)

I cannot express enough just how much time and energy Shameless puts into evolving their characters. Mickey might have just been a big bully at the start of the series but throughout the series and especially into this season we see him come alive and change from the love he feels for Ian. It wasn't an overnight character change but through the last few seasons we've seen parts of his personality slowly start to get softer and it was heartbreaking to watch him this season when he realized that he will love and stand by Ian even if he does have to deal with his bi-polar for the rest of his life.

Best Villain

Nominees:

- Ben Mendelsohn (Danny Rayburn, Bloodline)
I seriously couldn't even imagine having to deal with a family member that has turned out so vindictive and hateful because of a past tragedy that was covered up. Danny is willing to throw everyone and anyone under the bus in order to get back at his family. He traffics drugs through the family's inn, he blackmails his brothers and sisters into getting what he wants and when he's confronted by someone he laughs in their face.

- David Anders (Blaine DeBeers, iZombie)
Not only is Blaine the whole reason that Liv is a zombie in the first place, but he goes around having his minions kill people just so that he can sell their brains and make money. He believes everyone is expendable and is more than willing to cut them off one by one.

- Iwan Rheon (Ramsay Snow, Game of Thrones)
After the abuse he put Theon through a few seasons back and now he's putting Sansa in danger both physically and mentally after becoming her husband.

- ??? (Charles DiLaurentis (Better known as A), Pretty Little Liars)
We found out at the end of the fifth season (and was pretty much confirmed in the sixth season) that Charles DiLaurentis is the "Big A". Clearly this has to be one troubled character in order to go after the lives of his (sister?) and her closest friends for years.

Winner: Iwan Rheon (Ramsay Snow, Game of Thrones)

In all the villains in all the TV world, I would have to say that I think Ramsay is one of the worst. A lot of villains are made the way they are by their past but that's not how it is with Ramsay, he's actually just insane. After what he's done previously to Theon (cutting off his "special parts") and now seeing the way he tortures Sansa just for the hell of it, makes him one mean villain.
