1st Annual TV Awards: Part 7
Most Improved Season
Nominees:
- House Of Lies
They had a good comeback after a less than stellar second season. Though this one did a time jump and flashed back quite a bit to Marty's time spent in jail, it still made for a better season than the previous one.
- Mom
Considering after the first season, this series was only hanging on by a thread on our PVR, they really turned it around. It had great jokes, the characters felt more connected to each other while they dealt extremely well with some very serious issues.
Winner: Mom
If they keep it up, I predict they may be a future winner for Best Comedy Series. Allison & Anna's comedic timing and physical comedy couldn't be more on point. After almost pulling the PVR plug on this show last season it was quite amazing that this season it became one of our favorite comedy series on TV.
Most Disappointing Season
Nominees:
- Girls
This season just felt like it went nowhere. From the beginning to the end, did anything actually get accomplished?
- The Millers
The main killer of this season was the forced addition of Sean Hayes. Instead of gradually adding him into the main cast or having him as a more minor character, they pushed his character into the limelight by having him and Carol buy a place together.
- Orange Is The New Black
Season one and two melded together perfectly so it would be hard to figure out where one ended and the next began but season three left a lot to be desired. Between Alex & Piper's constant on-again-off-again relationship and the whole "Norma is Jesus" story line, this season really missed the mark on being either a drama or a comedy. Plus at the end of the season finale they all chose to play in the lake instead of trying to escape which is ridiculous and unbelievable. Not even one person runs? Please.
- Parks & Recreation
I was very much looking forward to this season as a few years ago I would have ranked this one as one of my top comedies. Unfortunately, a lot of the jokes were way to over-the-top and the jumping years, didn't help either.
- Vikings
This season had more than a few issues by constantly jumping time (and only telling the audience 10% of the time), having a major battle episode right after a major battle episode and by going back on forth on their subtitles of who was speaking English at what time.
Winner (Or should I say Loser): Parks & Recreation
Being the last season of the series I really expected them to go out on a bang, not a flop. After watching the first few (extremely over-the-top) episodes I was ready to pull the plug and give up on the series. Its so sad that it came to the point where I was dreading having to watch the PVR'd episodes when a few seasons ago this would have been my choice winner for favorite TV comedy.
